Weight Loss Success Story - How My Thoughts And Good Intentions Finally Became Lasting Action

I want to start by stating that I am not at all special. I’m a 35 year old woman, mother, and bride to be. I have been overweight for most of my adult life and I have tried countless diets that either failed or worked short term, only to fail later. One day this all changed. It wasn’t because of a health scare or a fad diet. It was simply due to the realization that I’d been over thinking this process. First, a bit of background.

I do consider myself to have a reasonable amount of will power and drive, but somehow I still failed. This did not do great things for my self esteem, but I still have always had success in my career, in my personal life and in my relationships. Still, my weight was always the elephant in the room.

I’m almost seven months into the program that has finally worked for me. I’ve lost nearly 60 pounds and am not having any problem sticking with the program and remaining motivated. The program is medifast and although I’ve found it ultra convenient, easy to follow, and very effective, I don’t give the program all of the credit.

Here’s what finally flipped the light switch for me. I remember this like it happened two hours ago. One day, I was at my daughter’s junior high band practice. They were rehearing for an upcoming competition at which they always scored a decent excellent, but never a superior. The kids were doing a decent job, but hadn’t yet crossed the threshold that would ensure a superior. The director stopped the rehearsal, sighed and said “To get this close and not push through is almost criminal. Whether you believe it, not going the distance is going to remain in the corner of your mind and you will always know that although you walked to the door, you didn’t even bother to open it.” When he was done, a hush fell over the room. The energy in the room changed. The kids went on to get a superior for the first time in ten years.

In the coming weeks, every time I thought about starting a new weight loss plan, I would think about the band director and how I wasn’t opening the door. A light bulb went off and I realized that success is really measured by a series of small decisions and actions. It’s really that simple.

That very day, I purchased one month’s worth of medifast and vowed that I would concentrate, day by day, only in making positive decisions. That was it. When I had to make a choice, I would say to myself “Open the door and make a positive decision.”

I realize that sounds very simplistic, but it is what has worked for me. Once I got the positive decision making down, then I concentrated on adding in one positive habit per week. As a result, I now routinely follow my diet, eat healthful foods, drink more water and exercise.

I no longer over think my weight loss. I just concentrate on making positive decisions and getting into positive habits. The rest has taken care of itself. I am so grateful I was in band class that day. The director has no idea the impact he made on my daughter and her mother.

If you’re struggling with weight loss, just vow the open the door. Concentrate today on only making positive decisions and do the same tomorrow. The days will turn into weeks and before you know it, you’ll be talking about your own weight loss success story.
